JAKARTA: Pakistan’s Muhammad Saqib etched his name in the history books by claiming a gold medal at the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA) World Championship 2024.

Saqib excelled in both the Senior and U-18 categories, showcasing remarkable skill and resilience against competitors from 78 countries.

In the U-18 52.2 kg category, Saqib emerged victorious in a fiercely contested final, defeating Kazakhstan’s Mansur Septegen in three thrilling rounds.

Saqib’s journey to the gold included a dominant performance in his opening bout against Maksym Shyshkhanyah of Ukraine and a semi-final win over Akezhan Magperov, also from Kazakhstan.

The championship, which began on December 8, continues to witness the participation of Pakistan’s top fighters.

Shahzaib Khan, Asim Khan, and Dawood Jan are set to represent the nation in the senior category, with their matches starting on December 11.

The finals for the senior events are scheduled for December 14.

Adding to Pakistan’s success, Mahmood Kamal secured two bronze medals in the -93 kg and +93 kg categories, further cementing the country's growing reputation in mixed martial arts.
